Up and running
Finally the blog script is up and running. I decided to go with WP because I like its features, flexibility and its potential. I also loved the possibility to be able to write in several different languages using different alphabets — without having to change the charset, the encoding etc.
I have tested it for a several days and it seems to be working. I am using the stable 1.2 version Mingus.
As for the layout: this is a re-designed version of the Vesuvius interface. Actually I did not change the structure of the Vesuvius index.php file, only the CSS was modified. This was necessary in order to fit with my existing website’s layout (you can see it clicking on the Home link in the top menu). To be completely honest, the (old) design of the site served as a starting point and, when the desired blog layout was achieved, I went back to the old pages and re-made them using the same index.php file for the static pages. Quasi-static, because by keeping the header, I am able to call e.g. the WP calendar on the Home page.
Of course, there are still a few things to be solved. Known issues:
TO DO list (update)
- fix the layout of this ugly list
- install some plugins, like pagination, related entries, acronyms
