Recently I discovered a very good little script sNews. It can be used as a light-weight blog or for a non-blog website - it’s quite versatile.

General

Script name: sNews

Script URI: http://www.solucija.com/

Download: http://www.solucija.com/home/snews/

Documentation: http://www.solucija.com/home/docs/

Licence: Creative Commons

Price: free

Description: sNews is a completly free PHP and MySQL driven tool for publishing and maintaining news articles on a website. Integrating sNews into your existing design is simple, but you could also use sNews on it’s own, as a simple Content Management System. Consisting of only one file, sNews is extremely lightweight, very easy to install, and easy to use via a simple web interface.

Since the whole script is one single file, the internationalization/localization is pretty straightforward. All the translatable strings are grouped at the beginning of the file and you can go in two ways:
a) by creating a separate language file (recommended)
b) by translating the strings directly in the script file

Known issues: The original file’s encoding is iso-8859-1 and there are no plans at this moment to change it to utf-8 which would support all languages.

i18n/l10n documentation: Presently only in the forum where you can also find a repository of existing translations.

Method: translating the strings for the language file

Tools: plain text editor

Difficulty level: easy
